Right, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard are absolutely fucking mental. They’ve embarked on their next genre hop and it’s thrash metal done in its purest form; basically just screaming at us for not looking after the planet. The result is enthralling, manic, thunderous and utterly absurd; but in the best kind of way. Your MCM’s favourite band could literally never be as versatile as these guys. After a year long break from their five album run in 2017, King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard returned with a new sound, a new drive and a new source of inspiration. The result is perhaps the band’s most refined and impressive work to date; quite the compliment given the band’s consistently commendable discography. If Fishing For Fishies does one thing, it’s live up to the theme of boogieing, serving as one of the most enjoyable albums you’re likely to hear this year.

In 2017, Australian psychedelic prog-rock band King Gizzard & The Lizard Wizard added the award for ‘hardest working band in the world’ to their ‘best band name’ award by releasing FIVE studio albums. The most impressive part about this was that they all contained different themes, concepts and sounds; something bands struggle to do over the course of decades let alone 12 months.
