Viberant Profile: Liam Jones

If you didn’t already know, Viberant is run by three different people. Myself, Callum and Ellis. While it’s fun to run this with friends it can become quite problematic. I mean yeah we all love Brockhampton and The 1975, but I’m not a big fan of Radiohead. Ellis hates on my boy Jaden Smith, and for some insane reason Callum doesn’t like XO Tour Llif3. Our opinions differ and while it’s challenging it makes for some fun, but the reader might not always get it. The idea behind the Viberant profiles is to get to know each of our tastes on an individual basis.

Q: The Viberant Classic Album Leaderboard is made of scores between all three of you, but if it was on your own what would you change?

A: The Jamie XX In Colour rating is absolutely criminal to me. It’s better than so many albums on that list but I suppose that’s the joy of the list, to be top you have to be loved by all three of us rather than just me. I think Arctic Monkey’s have been ranked a little too highly, after that second album I consider them mediocre.

Q: What was the first album you ever bought?

A: The two albums I always remember having were Mail On Sunday by Flo Rida and Sorry For Party Rocking by LMFAO. Both complete and utter trash looking back at it but I felt so cool at the time for repping cool dance and rap songs.

Q: What’s your most controversial music opinion?

A: It’s always going to come back to the age old argument, 90’s rap ain’t all that. It’s good for sure, I like WuTang and Tribe. Some of these guys were influential and really good and unique, but the rappers now are so much better to me. The best thing to come from 90’s rap was Outkast and all their best work was in the 2000’s. I respect what they did but by no means does that mean I love it.

Q: Who are your top 5 rappers right now?

A: If I’m looking at it personally, removing sales figures and all the hype. In no particular order I’m saying Kanye West, Kendrick Lamar, Tyler the Creator, Pusha T and Vince Staples. Drake isn’t as good as the streams suggest, the mans last four albums have been nowhere near his first four.

Q: If you could switch lives with anyone for a day, who would it be?

A: A real rich rapper with gold chains and grills. A$AP Rocky or one of the Migos or something, just have a real big rich person party.

Q: What’s the best gig you’ve ever been to?

A: I’ll give me top 3. Frank Ocean easily 1st, The 1975 2nd, and Yung Lean was lit in 3rd.

Q: What do you love outside of music?

A: Catch me playing Fortnite or watching some WWE. Also a big fan of a Netflix binge, particularly Always Sunny in Philly and Trailer Park Boys.

Q: What was the last song you listened to?

A: Billie Eilish- idontwannabeyouanymore. It was a Billie Eilish binge in general to be honest. She has a great mindset that could definitely inspire someone to improve on themselves.

Q: What genre of music are you most into?

A: Rap is my bread and butter and it’s been that way for a decade now. I do love the occasional indie band and my second choice is some mighty fine R&B.

Q: Favourite band?

A: It’s The 1975, easily the best band in the world right now.

Q: Favourite R&B Artist?

A: I got some some love for a ton of R&B artists. SZA, Kali Uchis, The Weeknd, Daniel Caesar, but easily my favourite is Frank Ocean.
